Established in 1698, this is Britain’s oldest wine shop. In the 19th-century people came here to be weighed on the shop’s scales (then a novelty). Now you can buy £25 bottles of Burgundy or affordable choices from Berry’s own excellent range. The six-week wine courses in the shop's cellar are justifiably popular.

Fortnum’s celebrated its 300th anniversary in 200. Its distinctive blends of tea and coffee make welcome gifts, as do the boxes of champagne truffles. For a special present, take a look at the hampers, which are packed with delicacies (cheese, foie gras, wine, etc) and can be delivered.

Maggs Bros Rare Books
Established in 1853, this atmospheric antiquarian bookshop in a Georgian townshouse has seats conveniently placed throughout. While away some time browsing the shelves, and expect to leave with a stack of first editions in your arms.
A whiskey connoisseur’s dream, with more than 700 malts, at least 300 of which are available to taste. The in-store tastings, designed for both the novice and expert, are popular.
